In The Longest Way Around, photographer Chris Dorley-Brown masterfully intertwines contemporary images with archival photographs, family letters, and wartime documents to create a poignant visual family history. This narrative explores his father's harrowing experiences as a prisoner of war and his mother's journey as a GI bride, bridging the gap between past and present.
The publisher, Overlapse, commissioned me to design the cover for this evocative work. I opted to use one of the archival images as the focal point, employing four-colour printing and a French fold to enhance the book's tactile quality. The result was a striking text-less cover/poster that invites readers to engage with the visual storytelling, setting the tone for the rich narratives within.
