During a visit to the Isle of Wight, I discovered an abandoned holiday park near the coastal town of Ryde. Intrigued by the decaying buildings and the poignant messages scrawled by local teenagers on the walls of the neglected chalets, I felt compelled to capture this juxtaposition. The site, left to nature by its owners, had become a canvas for the emotional expressions of the town's youth, highlighting a sense of mutual abandonment.
These images culminated in Abandoned, a short-run broadsheet newspaper that explores themes of neglect and youthful expression. Through the lens of this forgotten holiday camp, the work offers a reflective commentary on the connections between place, identity, and the lived experiences of the younger generation, inviting viewers to consider the deeper narratives of loss and longing embedded in the landscape.
